Dear Grandma:-- How are you? I hope you are better. Why hasn't some of you wrote and let us know how you are From your grandson Roy Stamp |
Notes: |
How old is Roy, the sender of this card? Perhaps late elementary. Notice
the big, blocky handwriting and the slightly stilted syntax, maybe that of
a fifth grader. What an interesting insight. It's very possible that the
great-grandchildren of this 10-year-old boy is looking at this web page
right now! It's also interesting that he chose to sign the message using his first and last name. "Roy Stamp." Don't you think that Grandma Stamp would know his last name? Well, that's probably how he signed his homework at school, so that's how he's going to sign his letters to Grandma, too. I love the view of the church in this picture. This is taken from the northwest corner so the view of the bell tower and steeple is perfect. Notice that the "windows" in the steeple are completely open. They were boarded up a few years after this picture was taken. It's a little different perspective when you realize that the bell tower was once completely open to the weather. All the better to hear the bell as it called the church's members to worship. |
