This is the same picture as another unused postcard that I own, except that the other postcard has a blue-tinted sky. This picture has been left black-and-white.

This is a "white border" postcard, which usually indicates that it was printed before 1930, even though the postmark says "1940". I think there's a good chance that it was a card that had been "laying around" for some time before it was actually used and mailed.

Driving 624 miles in 1940 would certainly have been one heck of a road trip. Mapquest tells me that Detroit to Macon is 619 miles, so it makes sense that Iva and Dave are writing back home. Of course, there were no interstate hiways back then. The entire trip would have been over two-lane country roads and probably would have been over two days.
