I'm not sure that I have the signature correct. "Trom" doesn't make any sense. The writer probably "guessed" Alpha's address -- and got it wrong. The post office delivered it, but with a stamped warning to Alpha. I couldn't find a "Lalley" Street (or anything close to it) on a map of Hannibal -- which is about 50 miles straight east of Macon. So I'm not sure where Alpha actually lived. The back of the card gives another interesting view of the "flag" postmark. And I'm pretty sure the postmark says 12 M, meaning "midnight". The front is the same picture as my 1906 postcard of the church -- the view from the southwest. |
