The elaborate script in the words "Post Card" on the back gives
a clue that this card probably dates from around 1914. It appears to be made of thicker and glossier stock than some of my other cards from the period. It's held up remarkably well. I'm not sure of its history, but it must of been stored away for many, many years. It may have been an inventory over-run or something like that to be so old and in such good shape. The high-resolution scan makes it look like there are some chopped- off words running down the center of the back of this card. But that's not true. Actually, there's just a squiggly line that separates the two sides of the card. The printing isn't perfect and part of the squiqqles are chopped off, making them look like partially-printed letters. It's a nice picture of the front of the church, taken from across the street. It was probably taken in the winter when the absence of leaves on the trees made the church more visable. You can see one of the five-globe street lights that lined Rollins street at the time. This church is just north of downtown and the street lights stretched all the way from downtown to the courthouse, just a couple of blocks to the north. |
